Hi,
Can anybody give me any details on the two Locomotives, I have very little information, so where they were built, what year, what engine, as much information as possible, also when i was in Ha-noi in December 2008 i remember seeing what looked like some new body parts for the front nose section did these get fitted ?
I have attached a photo of the locomotive seen at Ha-noi station.
Thank you for all the help so far !!!!

On the way back to main gate, I visited again D19E"s workshop I saw D8E-1002 was await to repair, I took some photo inside its cockpit, everything seem old and damaged,
This day was lucky day because I can see all D8E-1001 and 1002 , special products of Vietnam Railways but this was bad day for them because of all of D8E was await to repair at Depot

Yes, I thinks you right, you can see another photo of sakuraluu, they change new nose for all of D8E, but I thinks quality of this nose not so good

Danhbaduongsat,
Many thanks for your help with the D8E infomation, can you tell that it was built in Gia-Lam workshops ? and when they were first built did they run with one locomotive at each end of the train or did they always run with a single locomotive ?
I was told when i was in Vietnam that they were built for the line to Lao-Cai is this correct ?
Once again thanks

Yes, you can see this plate at locomotive
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w288/sakura_2505/IMG_3987.jpg
This plate show that this loco built in Gia Lam workshop year 2003, design by Vietnam Railways (PRMU Company)
First time, they built it as

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w288/sakura_2505/hoitrai/DSC01010.jpg
with 02 locomotives D8E-1001 and 1002 each end and 04-05 passenger cars and using for Hanoi - Lao Cai line, named of SP1/2 train. Before 2003 other train in this line named LC but when they run this train they named new name: SP (mean Sapa), but they fail of test this train so they use D8E for other line: Hanoi-Dong Dang, Hanoi - Hai Phong....
It is so funny because of they (Vn Railways) think 02 D8E loco ( with 641 HP x 2 = 1281 HP) will be same power as D12E, ha ha..... and they fail because it was so different
